If you're not familiar with the Escapade, it's what later became the Highlander (as flown by Steve Henry) and then the SuperSTOL.
This plane first flew in Jan 2012 and I am the second owner. It currently has 287hrs which is increasing with use.
G-DRPK is different to most Escapades in that it’s well equipped, with dual Dynon D10 instruments, full EMS inc EGTs and CHTs, gullwing doors, strengthened landing gear, highly accurate fuel flow totaliser(!), Trig mode S, Pilotaware, Trig 8.33 radio (TY96 with playback function), Avmap moving map, USB charging, landing/nav/strobe lights etc, Andair fuel valve, brushless fuel pumps and filter…
It has a UL Power 260i engine, which is a fantastic alternative to a Rotax 912 and not to be confused with a Jabiru! The 260i is ECU controlled so it starts first time every time, just like a car, whether hot or cold. There is no carb heat, choke, carb balancing, fragile gearbox or anything to worry about. It just works. Oil burn is so minimal that it has not required topups between changes.
It cruises at 70kts on 14.5 litres per hour, though one can cruise faster if required. STOL performance is excellent.
Included in the sale is a Duc Swirl 2R prop (1620mm dia) to replace the existing Hercules, for improved performance. With the new prop cruise is increased to 80kt on 14.5L/Hr, shorter takeoff and maximum cruise 95kt indicated at higher fuel flow.
The airframe is covered in Polyfiber which is in excellent condition, with the correct Polytone paint (Orange Yellow). It has been fitted with VGs and elevator gap seals, and is easy to fly as a result. Ground handling is tame, with Matco toe brakes for P1 and P2. New spare brake pads are included with the aircraft.
Over winter I have replaced all the fuel and oil hoses at a cost of £1k. The fuel hoses are now Speedflow PTFE type, with fire sleeving. PTFE hoses will never need to be replaced and do not smell of fuel like rubber hoses. The oil lines are Speedflow Startlite hose. I have also installed a new oil cooler with all new fittings. The hoses use AN fittings so there are no Jubilee clips and perished rubber hoses to deal with.
The main feature of the Escapade is having the quickest and easiest wing folding of any plane. The ailerons and flaps are cable operated so there are no controls to disconnect - just remove the turtle deck (7 camlocs) then remove the spar pin and fold back. I have been storing the plane with the wings folded and it’s been no problem to rig/derig each flight, and included is a custom tailwheel dolly.
The baggage area on the Escapade is massive so it’s ideal for taking camping gear etc… A perfect aircraft for visiting farm strips.
Extra items include an open trailer and Vertigo covers. Also included are various spares, such as hoses, seals/gaskets, leftover paint and covering.
Will be sold with a new permit.
Located in East Sussex and available for viewing. With recent maintenance carried out, this is a great way to access incredibly cheap and hassle free flying.
